Appeal for Nepal Earthquake Relief

Nepal Cultural Society of BC (NCSBC), the community organization of people of Nepalese origin from across BC, calls upon all individuals and organizations to come together to support those affected by the recent devastating earthquake in Nepal. A massive earthquake measuring 7.9 magnitude struck Nepal on Saturday, the April 24th, knocking down many historical monuments and temples and taking away the lives of more than 7200 people. The damages in Kathmandu valley and Gorkha district (the epicenter of the quake) in particular have been enormous. The death toll is expected to rise, and many more are expected to be injured or rendered homeless. The earthquake was the worst to hit Nepal after 1934. The quake also caused a massive avalanche near Mount Everest, affecting many mountain climbers, including Canadians; at least 10 are feared dead.

At this tragic moment, Nepal is in a dire need of your support. We, the Nepali community from BC, are doing all we can to raise funds and help those in immediate need of food, shelter and medicines. Please support Nepal at this critical juncture by donating to either (a) Canadian Red Cross at the following site: www.redcross.ca or (b) by mailing a cheque payable to NCSBC at 8962 152 St P.O. Box 73094 Surrey, BC V3R 0J2.
